BIG NEWS – Pat Woodbury to Announce Run for Mayor.

Councilwoman Pat Woodbury has filed her Statement of Organization, her Statement of Economic Interests, and her Certificate of Candidate Qualification.

I spoke with Councilwoman Woodbury a few moments ago, and she has confirmed that she will announce her candidacy for Mayor tomorrow (Saturday, January 23, 2010) at noon on the steps of the Daily Press.

I will be there. Hope you will too.

  1. Pat Woodbury is as republican as they come. I hope Democrats will coalesce around a more progressive and forward looking candidate. We have enough of the party of NO in Richmond and Washington and don’t need them in charge of city hall.

    • My impression was that McKinley L. Price was rather close to such a candidate, and more affiliated with Democrats. So far (from a distance) he looks like a good pick to me.

BTW I think it’s confusing and awkward that as BO points out, mayoral candidates don’t “run as” members of a Party but people know “who they’re with.” Maybe that’s no big deal, but maybe they should have to run as such since they usually are de facto affiliated with Parties?

  2. Pat won’t be getting my vote, she undoubtedly has the education to support such a candidacy, but like half of the people currently on the city council, she lacks much needed experience. Id much rather see a small business owner that has a record community involvement and leave Woodbury to the School Board. Haskins is right, she will have a hard time running against Mr. Price, especially after placing herself in the middle of the Randy Hildebrandt firing. She may be well liked in the GOP but her short time on the council has proven to be ineffective and controversial at best, aka not a great platform for a campaign and exactly what any city doesn’t need.

  3. Pat Woodbury will make a fine mayor the city of NN
Mayor Joe Frank has been a great asset for the city and will be missed.

Mrs. Woodbury is respected by people all across the spectrum Democrat and Republican.

The progress and spending done on City Center has been a waste of the city’s resourrces, when the Washington AVe. Downtown could have been spruced up. Lets vote for some real change and that’s Pat Woodbury.

  4. Well, I think there is too much building and development here in NN. City Center took business away from Port Warwick, which was nearly as recent. Some nice little shops have closed down, in old historic areas like Hilton. All that building probably cost more money than it will get back, and the sky e.g. near Hilton is a creepy dull amber glow from all the lights. It’s gross, we need more natural space.

  5. Woodbury will not be getting my vote!
She votes ‘NO’ on everything. ‘Stagnation and status quo good.’ ‘Progress and growth, bad…’
I for one think Mayor Frank did a terrific job bringing NN into the 21st century with a balance approach to growth and infrastructure. I’m sad to see him go, but can understand why he lost his taste for serving, having to battle Woodbury and her mindless clone followers on the city council.

  6. Yes, “not run as” – but current Mayor Frank is of course “a Democrat” and openly campaigns for them, typically (uh, not always!). That’s the sense I meant.

  7. Is she running as a Republican? Or not really overtly, but in effect? Overall I respect her and think she’s rather capable anyway, aside from affiliation.
BTW I’m glad could get into this, computer (actually, OS) troubles held me back for awhile.

    • As you know, the local races are non – partisian. A candidate may not run as a Republican or Democrat, but either party may endorse or contribute to a candidate. Dr. Patricia Woodbury, to my understanding, is well liked among many in the Republican party.
